Francesca Pavillard-Cain was born and raised in Crested Butte, Colorado. She is the daughter of avid skier and professor Mary Cain and world-renowned mountain guide and co-creator of AIARE; Jean Pavillard. Francesca was skiing since she could walk and started telemarking at age 10. In 2013 Francesca won the overall Freeride World Qualifier series by placing first in the freeride events in Crested Butte and Taos and Second in Snowbird, the same year Francesca placed third overall for U.S.C.S.A Intercollegiate nationals. The success from her 2013 season led Francesca to compete on, the biggest stage for freeride competition, the Freeride World Tour. During her 2014 season Francesca traveled the world to compete, even as a rookie she placed second in Kappl, Austria. After her successful season, Francesca was one of seven to re-qualify for the 2015 Freeride World Tour, no longer a rookie but a veteran. ‘Fran’ as she’s known to her friends, serves as a leader within the local community, skiing community and backcountry.
