Josh was born and raised in Colorado. He started skiing at Keystone at 4 years old, where it didn’t take long to develop a passion for the sport. He continued his skiing throughout Summit County, which eventually lead him to compete on the Freeskiing World Tour and in Freeride World Qualifier (FWQ) events for a number of years. In 2013, Josh began judging and assisting with junior big mountain event operations; today he is a Head Judge for the International Freeskiing and Snowboarding Association (IFSA) and continues to judge junior IFSA and adult FWQ events. As a frequent backcountry traveler and big mountain leader, Josh is very passionate and advocates for avalanche education, terrain awareness, communicative and responsive group dynamics, the knowledgeable use of avalanche safety gear, and effective decision making in avalanche terrain.
